Fury’s Ashes

A novel

T.S. Austen

The God of the Last Day has two faces—the Deceiver and the Destroyer. For each of these two personas, there is a hunter.

Eva, a young socialite hellbent on winning legislative office, hunts the Deceiver. The God of the Last Day, a mysterious cult leader whose true identity no one knows, preaches hatred and fear to those oppressed by systemic poverty. While the God of the Last Day’s army of radicalized disciples rapidly grows, Eva struggles to convince her city of a new threat’s existence.

Scipio, a disgraced war veteran grieving his husband’s murder, hunts the Destroyer. After years of searching for the one who burned his home and killed his husband, Scipio feels a creeping temptation to abandon his search. For he knows—even if he cannot admit it to himself yet—that his husband would not be proud of the man he has become.

Enter Haydée, a wily seer of incalculable age. Per a centuries-old vendetta against corrupt men in power, she recruits Scipio for a covert plot to capture and execute the God of the Last Day. But the violence she and Scipio plan to unleash threatens to further destabilize the city Eva is trying to save.
