Words the Dead Never Spoke

A novel

T.S. Austen

The God of the Last Day has two faces, the Deceiver and the Destroyer.

Scipio hunts the Destroyer, although he does not know the God’s true name. Scipio seeks vengeance for the murder of his husband and destruction of his hometown by the God’s disciples, many of whom wield a destructive fire that burns backwards in time. After years of failure to learn anything about the God of the Last Day, much less capture him, Scipio hunts and executes minor Servants of the Last Day wherever he can find them.

Meanwhile, Eva, a precocious, self-taught intellectual in her mid-twenties, hunts the Deceiver—although she does not realize it. She seeks a divorce for her sister, whose forced marriage prevented her from realizing her career as an economic reformer on behalf of the working class. But it is precisely the God of the Last Day, whose disciples spread lies about the world to radicalize oppressed working people, who lurks behind the brokenness of the world Eva wishes to help her sister cure.
